Florence, Italy

Brunelleschi Hotel

Jewel of the city

What it is

A centuries-old bolthole in central Firenze.

What it isn't

Soulless and service-less. Don’t stay here if you’re looking to be just another nameless guest.

What we think

A hotel that had a star turn in The DaVinci Code is expectedly cinematic. This one, built in and around the Pagliazza Tower, which dates back to the sixth century, is where the fictional Professor Langdon stays when he’s in town. Rooms would make nonna proud (fabrics are velvet and shimmery) and include a Luxury Brand courtesy line, Italian linens, and oak parquet floors. If you want a view of Palazzo Signoria, the Giotto Tower, or Santa Maria del Fiore (or all three) just ask. For special occasions—engagements, or perhaps just a week away from the kids—it’s worth splurging on the Tower Suite, housed in the round Byzantine-era brick walls that are purportedly the oldest in town, with prime views of the Duomo.

You're here because

You like your history with a side of style—like what you’ll find in the Tower Bar, where apertifs and housemade gelato await promptly at 6:00pm (try the Perrier-Jouët champagne).

The Moment

Starting the day with bottomless breakfast (just-baked pastries, a profusion of local meats) in the hotel’s stained-glass-windowed dining room has spoiled you for life—though your belt may say otherwise.

Restaurants & Bars

Ristorante Santa Elisabetta – unique 2 MICHELIN star restaurant with only 7 exclusive tables accommodating up to 14

Osteria Pagliazza – traditional Tuscan fare, offers seasonal outdoor seating in the quiet piazza overlooking the Byzantine Tower

Tower Bar - an aperitif in Florence

Location

Less than four miles from the Florence Airport Amerigo Vespucci, and walkable (even with all that Tumi luggage) from the S. Maria Novella train station. The Duomo is just one block north of the hotel's front door.
