Fairmont Chateau Whistler

A lift ticket to skiing heaven

What it is

Ski-in/ski-out luxury at the base of Blackcomb Mountain.

What it isn't

Boutique or romantic: It's a big resort that attracts families and frequently hosts large groups.

What we think

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler has golf, a swimming pool, a holistic spa, yoga classes—even a rooftop wedding chapel. But let's be real: You come here because you want to ski Whistler Blackcomb, arguably the best downhill resort in North America. The 539-room hotel sits at the foot of Blackcomb Mountain, with the Magic Chair and Wizard Express lifts right out the back door. That puts all of Whistler Blackcomb at your fingertips: 8,100 acres of skiable terrain, the incredible Peak 2 Peak gondola connecting the two summits, glacier skiing, backcountry access, and the impressive ski and snowboard school, which includes camps for women, kids and teens. Though it only dates to 1989, the hotel shares the distinctive castle-like look of Fairmont's historical Canadian Railway hotels. The lobby has high timbered ceilings and stone columns, and rooms sport a mountain lodge feel, their gold and brown tones brightened by colorful fabrics and cheerful tartan bed skirts. Add in various dining options and consistently excellent service, and you've got an ideal ski resort—even for non-skiers.

You're here because

You want to ski Whistler Blackcomb amid a friendly, casual atmosphere, with a host of other activities and amenities close at hand.

The Moment

The adrenaline is still tingling in your veins as you step onto the Mallard Terrace and sidle up to one of the roaring fire pits—one eye on the slopes you just descended, the other on the waiter balancing a tray of martinis.
