Bretton Woods, New Hampshire
Omni Mount Washington Resort
Sprawling Stunner
What it is
This bucket list stay since 1902 has a 25,000 square foot spa, de facto water park, championship golf courses, nine bars and restaurants, and so much more.
What it isn't
Boring. Activities on the premises include zip lining, tennis on red clay courts, carriage rides through the grounds, and—a mere four minutes away—Bretton Woods Ski Area.
What we think
Thomas Edison and no less than three U.S. Presidents have checked in for some R&R at Omni Mount Washington Resort. And no wonder. It’s the resort with everything. And that includes the guest rooms. Rooms within the landmarked historic hotel were designed by Gilded Age hotelier Joseph Stickney himself, starting with the eternally cozy 200 square foot European Rooms (lovingly stocked with plaid reading armchairs, toile draperies, and skirted beds). Francophiles will want to splurge on the 650 square foot Premier Queen—Princess Carolyn Room, where (yep!) Princess Carolyn Salome de Faucigny-Lucinge, the widowed wife of the founder, stayed annually; the room is still graced by her royal-worthy four poster bed. Want new digs? The Presidential Wing can’t be beat, and includes access to a Presidential Club Lounge (i.e. gratis breakfasts and wine hours).
You're here because
The resort is consistently ranked among the best of the best for families; here, your little ones will have crafternoons at their Omni Kids Club (ages 5-10) and even be able to join their Omni Junior Chefs program, where they’ll learn about eating for wellness.
The Moment
Squint, and you think you might see Thomas Edison himself bellied up to the cocktail bar at the 1902 Main Dining Room. Maybe it’s the stained glass, or the glimmering chandeliers, or maybe it’s the absolutely stellar New England Spritz in your hand.
