Providenciales, Turks & Caicos
Amanyara
Isolated tropical serenity.
What it is
An utterly exclusive, soul-refreshing Caribbean hideaway.
What it isn't
In the thick of things: The remote location, in a vast nature preserve, is far from the rest of Provo's resorts.
What we think
Amanyara, the first Caribbean property for the Amanresorts chain, opened in 2006 atop a jagged promontory overlooking a sugar-white beach. It's the picture of a Caribbean hideaway—with a uniquely Aman twist. In lieu of calypso beats and cocktail umbrellas, Amanyara highlights the rugged beauty of its location while maintaining the poise and simplicity of its Asian roots. The 38 low-slung, open-sided guest pavilions, made of dense Indonesian hardwoods, are scattered around the native palmettos and low-lying scrub. Seemingly floating atop ponds or positioned above the ocean, they have a sleek, minimalist design: teak furniture, terrazzo floors, a freestanding white soaking tub. All have decks; some have a private pool. (There are also several villas with three to six bedrooms.) At the heart of the resort is a massive reflecting pool, restaurant and bar. The spa and fitness center offer yoga, Pilates and tennis, and there's even a dive center—the resort overlooks the world's third largest coral reef—and a kid-oriented Nature Discovery Center. Nonetheless, the resort's exclusive air is better suited to couples than to families with young children.
You're here because
You want the Aman experience—romantic, remote, effortless—within (relatively) easy reach.
The Moment
Back from the morning’s dive, you hand over your gear to your guide and wander over to one of the lounge chairs. In the moment it takes you to readjust your sunglasses, a server is on his way over, carrying eucalyptus-scented towels and ice-cold bottles of water.
