La Hacienda Xcanatun
The original inhabitants of this architecturally stunning hacienda (once a sisal factory) wouldn’t recognize it today, by design. Yes, there are arches, exposed beams, and ironwork details everywhere…but it’s also tailor-made for today’s glitterati in the most exquisite ways. Guest rooms are earthy and spacious, beginning with the 635 square foot Naj Junior Suite-King, with their balcony views of lotus ponds and finishes from the Yucatan (yep, that limestone tub was made right here). Our favorite room here may well be the 1,554-square-foot Xcanatun Pool Suite, which has an utterly romantic canopy bed and its own private pool fringed by leafy palms.
An 18th century hacienda transformed into the ultimate 54-suite getaway with a modernist al fresco pool, spa pavilion on a pond, and even a chapel.
Hangry, thanks to three bars and restaurants. Be sure to go wild at the waterside Lol-Ha Pool Club, where octopus and shrimp pizza is the best you’ll ever have.
Staff have curated the types of guest experiences most people only have when they “know someone,” including guided wildlife tours to find the region’s healing plants and cooking classes with their chef (you might try your hand at making slow roasted pork or sikil p’aak, a sauce of scallions, pumpkin seeds and tomato).
You made it through a yoga session in their spa pavilion overlooking the pond, and now it’s time to really indulge with a Balinese massage. How do you say “heavenly” in Spanish?
