Coronet Ridge Resort

What We Think

Coronet Ridge Resort used to be called the Nugget Point Hotel, but it's been through a full five-star makeover and now feels like a completely different place. It sits above the Shotover River in Arthur's Point, close enough to Queenstown that you can pop into town in a few minutes, but far enough away that it feels calm and separate once you're there. The building itself is simple and warm — lots of timber and stone that match the mountains around it. Rooms range from smaller Alpine View rooms to bigger two-bedroom suites, and each one has its own balcony looking out at the mountains instead of at other rooms. The restaurant is run by chef Dominic Dsouza, and the food leans on local ingredients — meat, seafood, and a wine list built around nearby Central Otago vineyards. The spa is a real highlight: there's a steam room, sauna, indoor pool, hot tub, and treatments using New Zealand skincare products, which is exactly what you want after a day of skiing or hiking. Overall, it's a hotel that lets the scenery do most of the work, and doesn't try too hard to compete with it.

What It Is

Coronet Ridge Resort is a 41-room hotel above the Shotover River in Arthur's Point, just outside Queenstown, built around a big renovation with a strong focus on spa and wellness.

What It Isn't

Not a small ski cabin, and not a city hotel that's just borrowed some mountain decor. It's bigger and more full-service than a boutique lodge, but calmer and more private than a typical city-center stay.

You're Here Because

Picture yourself soaking in the outdoor hot tub as the sun goes down over the valley, watching the mountains turn from grey to purple while the river runs below.

The Moment

The resort sits above the Shotover River in Arthur's Point, about a 15-minute drive from Queenstown Airport. It's close enough to Coronet Peak for skiing, and just a short drive from downtown Queenstown.
