The Cape, A Thompson Hotel

What We Think

As designed by Mexican architect Javier Sánchez, even the most basic rooms are anything but basic here. You’ll find a freestanding copper soaking tub, hanging daybed and floor-to-ceiling ocean views (oh, and a craft cocktail bar) in all 161 rooms, the smallest of which is 592 square feet. Enrique Olvera’s restaurant Manta serves elevated locavore comfort food (black miso fish tacos; vegetable tempura with charred poblanos). The only rooftop lounge in Cabo San Lucas is perched six stories above the sea. There’s even a Glass Box—exactly what it sounds like, an ultra-contemporary glass-walled room turned humidor and bar that serves perfect mezcal cocktails.

What It Is

A clean-lined yet opulent resort on the Sea of Cortez.

What It Isn't

Colorful. Kahlo-obsessed Mexican design aficionados may want to look elsewhere.

You're Here Because

The design is up-to-the-minute, the energy is youthful but refined, and the location is tucked away from the craziness of central Cabo.

The Moment

You’d normally shy away from a swim-up bar, but you’ve never seen one like this: perched at one end of an infinity pool fronting the rollicking sea, with cocktails as restorative as the salty breeze.
